illuminé White Shade System

The illuminé™ White Shade System includes 8 highly esthetic shades that permit the fabrication of restorations to match various degrees of bleached dentition. The illuminé™ White Shade System also incorporates the illuminé™ White Shade Guide which is the perfect communication system for dentists, laboratory technicians and patients.

The illuminé™ shades offer an expanded range of whiter and brighter shades than are currently available in any other shading system on the market, extending from a warm white through a pure white. Now for the first time, dentists can more closely match the brighter and whiter shades their patients desire. Thus, laboratory technicians can accurately create cosmetic restorations to match bleached dentition.

illuminé White Shades Radically Extend the Shade Range Dentists Can Prescribe Using the illuminé™ Shade System

  • Determine the patient's shade family, and a target shade using the illuminé™ shade guide.
  • Prescribe the restoration in Ceramco®3 Porcelain, Finesse® All-Ceramic, Cristobal®+ Indirect Composite, or Cercon® Zirconia!
To achieve a result one shade lighter than A1 or B1
(commonly referred to as Ao or Bo) select shade i1 or i2

  • The shades i3, i5 and i7 are keyed to the "A/D" shade families, and are lighter and brighter than i1.
  • The shades i4, i6 and i8 are keyed to the "B/C" shade families, and are lighter and brighter than i2.

The Science Behind illuminé™
Color difference is measured in CIElab DE units. The Vita Lumin® shade guide's sixteen shades encompass a color difference range of DE=16 from lightest to darkest. The illuminé™ Shade Guide's eight shades extend this range to additional DE=11 units. Which means that the average color difference between shades (say A1 and A2) on the Vita Lumin® shade guide is DE=4, in each of A, B, C and D families. The illuminé™ white shades have been designed to have an average color difference between shades (e.g. i1 and i3) on the illuminé™ shade guide of DE=3.8. Therefore the shade progression in the illuminé™ White Shade family is similar to the shade progression of the Vita shades.

The shades are also coordinated in value. the progression in color from i1 to i3, i5 and i7, or from i2 to i4, i6 and i8 is arranged so that value (brightness) increases (fig 1), and chroma (color intensity) decreases (fig. 2) uniformly.
